About Us

Fresh LogoFauquier Reaches for Excellence in School Health (FRESH) is a county-wide program to
create a culture of health and wellness for students, staff and the community. The
program is funded by a grant from the PATH Foundation. The FRESH program
focuses on creating positive and healthy changes in our classrooms, cafeterias, after-school
settings, and within the community – ultimately helping our students enjoy healthier lives.

FRESH’s programs include:

  • Fresh Integration Team Specialists (FITS) work with elementary teachers to
integrate kinesthetic learning into the teaching of core academic subjects as well as
supporting the Physical Education objectives in the classroom.
  • Through the FRESH afterschool clubs, Wellness Leaders at each school will
provide and host healthy activities and clubs that provide fun opportunities for
students to learn about fitness, nutrition, gardening and wellness.
  • In partnership with the FCPS Nutrition Services Department, the FRESH chef
will provide culinary training, nutrition education opportunities and continuous
efforts to increase the healthy food choice options in the school cafeterias.

The FRESH mission provides positive experiences to promote healthy messaging and
support in the classrooms, cafeteria, schools and the community at large, to supports
healthier lifestyles as evidenced by their knowledge, attitudes, skills, and behaviors related
to healthy eating and active living.
