FRESH

Fresh LogoFauquier Reaches for Excellence in School Health (FRESH) is a county-wide program to
create a culture of health and wellness for students, staff and the community. The
program is funded by a grant from the PATH Foundation. The FRESH program
focuses on creating positive and healthy changes in our classrooms, cafeterias, after-school
settings, and within the community – ultimately helping our students enjoy healthier lives.

FRESH’s programs four pillars include:

  • Fresh Integration Team Specialists (FITS) work with teachers’ to integrate kinesthetic learning into core academic subjects, making movement an integral part of the school day.
  •   FRESH afterschool clubs provide fun opportunities for students to engage in fitness, nutrition, gardening and wellness activities.
  • In partnership with the FCPS Nutrition Services Department, the FRESH chef provides culinary training to increase healthy food options in the school cafeterias, nutrition education, and community outreach opportunities to support a healthy culture.
  • FCPS FRESH is a catalyst for positive change in the community, collaborating through outreach to create a culture of health and wellness in our community.

The FRESH mission provides positive experiences to promote healthy messaging and
support in the classrooms, cafeteria, schools and the community at large, to supports
healthier lifestyles as evidenced by their knowledge, attitudes, skills, and behaviors related
to healthy eating and active living.
